Wells Fargo has awarded $20,000 to the Opa-locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC) to support workforce development in north Miami-Dade County. The OLCDC's Opa-locka Tech Hire Center is an innovative initiative that aims to give young adults the training, experience and support necessary to access jobs in the information technology field, which has the capacity to put them on a pathway to middle class. According to the Beacon Council, technology is the fastest-growing sector of the Miami-Dade economy. But many people who live in the north western corridor of the County are being cut out of the growth as there are limited training programs - particularly outside of a college/university - located in the area. The Opa-locka Tech Hire Center will provide technical training, job readiness and life skills toapproximately 200 low-income minority young adults, ages 16 - 25, living in the north Miami-Dade community. Through a series of coordinated services, the OLCDC will prepare young adults with the skills necessary to get them ready for a future in the workplace. Wells Fargo is committed to supporting and improving local communities through community development, education, human services, arts & culture, civic engagement and environment. The financial services company supports thousands of national and community-based nonprofits annually to help revitalize and strengthen communities. It is among the top corporate cash donors among U.S. companies, donating $286.5 million to 14,500 nonprofits in 2017 to support critical social, economic, and environmental challenges.
